Bitesize Drama is the new name for The Stag Theatre Company.

It was decided in 2019 that the company would change its name as we would no longer be using the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks, preferring to use adaptable village venues, and because we often mistakenly received emails and social media messages for the Stag venue.

The name Bitesize Drama acknowledges the success of our evenings of short plays, one-act plays and Murder Mysteries, as well as our buffet dinner offerings that have accompanied many of these recent productions.

We have also enjoyed offering our short play collections and Murder Mystery entertainments as part of fundraising evenings on behalf of local groups such as Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club, Platt Village Hall Fundraising, Bidborough Gardening Association, Holmesdale Lodge 874 and Fundridge.

The History of The Stag Theatre Company:

We started life as the in-house amateur group at the Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks (alongside but separate from StagTech which professionally showcased the theatre's technical facilities in their productions).

Originally, membership took the form of a "Pool of Talent" with entry by audition in front of a panel of 3 people. The productions were both musicals and drama and went under the banner of Stag Theatre productions.

When there was a change of management, and the theatre became the Sevenoaks Playhouse, the amateur group was told that they could no longer be in-house.

We therefore resolved to continue on our own and to call ourselves Stag Theatre Company.

We had no funds at all as we had not needed them before since everything was provided for us by the theatre.

We were given the opportunity to do one production at the theatre rent-free to try and make some money - this final rent-free show was an excellent run of Habeas Corpus.

Since then we have done musicals, plays, revues, murder mysteries and fund raising events and built up modest reserves to enable us to continue.
